We at Cease Fire... Don't Smoke The Brothers & Sisters are planning our19th Annual Six Month Moratorium To Stop The Killings! Cookout/Amateur Boxing Match in association with Universal Madness. The 19th Annual Six-Month Moratorium will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Upshur Recreation Park located at 4300 Arkansas Avenue NW.
There will be enough free food to feed an estimated crowd of 5,000. There will be entertainment, boxing, and presentation of awards to community leaders that have made a positive difference.
Our event was a success last year because of generous people who donated to our event, people who are socially conscious and care about the people in the communities where they live or work. Once again, we are calling on you to support our worthy cause with a donation, or to help us by underwriting some of the costs of our large free community event that focuses on stopping the killings and declaring a six-month moratorium.
Annually, at our event, we have medical providers that come out to offer free medical screenings and pass our literature to our attendees; local politicians speak; bands perform with songs in keeping with our theme about stopping the violence and killing; we distribute about 450 backpacks to students; we have moon bounce and face-painting for the children; we have a voter registration table, and we have the DC Prevention Center on-site passing out materials and Narcan kits that prevent drug overdose. We also have several speakers who speak about the six-month moratorium to stop the killing and recommend solutions.
Our event is peaceful and has never had an incident of violence in our 18-year history.
The amateur boxing match is a big draw. We set up a regulation boxing ring in the park. The boxers are all young and up to 18 years old and are matched in several boxing matches. All boxing participants receive a trophy, win or lose.
