Cease Fire…DSTBS is dedicated to ending violence, uplifting at-risk youth, and rebuilding our communities from within. Founded by The Honorable Al-Malik Farrakhan, our mission is to restore peace, protect lives, and interrupt cycles of destruction through street-level outreach.
Cease Fire...DSTBS is more than a name—it’s a mission, a movement, and a mandate.
For over 30 years, Cease Fire…Don’t Smoke the Brothers has stood on the frontlines of Washington, D.C.’s fight to end community violence—not with politics or promises, but with presence, purpose, and people power. At the heart of this mission is our founder, The Honorable Al-Malik Farrakhan, a visionary shaped by the very streets he now helps to transform.
Once a gang leader and political prisoner, Brother Farrakhan returned to D.C. in 1993 after serving 21 years behind bars and witnessing firsthand the systems that entrap our youth. Instead of turning away, he turned toward the pain, launching a movement that began with a historic gang truce in the Mayor’s Office and evolved into a life-saving organization devoted to interrupting cycles of violence and despair.
Our mission is clear: to restore peace, protect our youth, and rebuild communities from within. We walk the streets, engage the forgotten, uplift the fallen, and remind our people—especially our young people—that they are not alone, and they are not each other’s enemy.
Through outreach, mentorship, crisis mediation, and real talk from those who’ve lived the life, Cease Fire meets people where they are—on the block, in the trap, behind the wall—and walks with them toward healing, dignity, and hope.
We don’t just call for peace. We build it—one life, one block, one generation at a time.
For over 30 years, Cease Fire...DSTBS has been on the front lines—interrupting violence, restoring hope, and rebuilding Black families across Washington, D.C.
We don’t just talk about change—we live it. We mentor youth, mediate conflict, feed communities, and preserve our legacy through education and advocacy. But we can't do it alone.
